Gilded Sentry Back-Story...

The working idea is that, George Christophers, a middle aged archeologist, was excavating an egyptian tomb and stumbled upon the fabled shield of power, and upon contact with it, became endowed with the powers of a god.

The shield is an object of unknown origin that, over the thousands of years that it has been on this planet, has passed through the hands of several people that have used the shield's power for positive and destructive purposes. Legend says that the shield came to Earth in a meteor shower approximately 80,000 years ago.
